As work continues on the cathedral, it is interesting to note that on Monday 4th September 181 years ago, Dean Terence O’Shaughnessy celebrated the first mass in the cathedral. On the same date 118 years ago, Bishop Michael Fogarty was consecrated Bishop of Killaloe in the cathedral and on his death in 1955 was buried in the middle aisle.
